Dalton-le-Dale

This is a classic view of old Dalton le bale village as it originally looked in years gone by. A farming community with a church and vicarage. Most of the buildings have gone including the church cottage with the ivy fronting facing us in this view. On the right of the picture, clothed also in ivy is the old vicarage which was demolished in 1963 having also been a school for the village. With its back facing us is Rose Cottage which is described in another sheet. Heading towards us in the picture is a pony & trap, one of many which conveyed passengers from the church to Princess Road.

The modern view of the village shows a glimpse of St Cuthberts Terrace which was built in c1906. The car is parked on the drive of a new house, which was built in the style of the old vicarage by Mr & Mrs Leary in c1980. The church of St Andrews can be seen more clearly.
